Initial Setup

Now that you've finished downloading Codex, you can complete the initial setup, create your account, and log in to Codex Editor to begin your translation journey.

Loading the Codex App

  1. Launch the Application: Open the Codex Editor application on your device.
  2. Accept Permissions: When prompted, accept any necessary permissions that the application requests.
  3. Restart if Needed: If the application doesn't load properly after accepting permissions, close and reopen it.

Account Registration Process

Creating an account with Codex Editor gives you access to all translation features, project management tools, and collaboration capabilities.

Step 1: Access the Registration Screen

  1. From the initial screen, select the option to create a new account.

Step 2: Enter Your Information

We recommend writing down your login details somewhere safe

  1. Username: Choose a unique username (e.g., "demo_user_2")

    • Must be unique across all Codex Editor users
    • Can contain letters, numbers, and underscores
    • Cannot be changed after account creation
  2. Email Address: Provide a valid email address

    • Important: Use a real email address or a reliable burner email
    • Fake emails cannot be used for password resets
    • You'll receive important notifications at this address
  3. Password: Create a strong password

    • Minimum length of 16 characters required (ensure it's long enough)
    • Include a mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols
    • Confirm your password by entering it again
    • Click the eye icon to view the password if needed

Step 3: Complete Registration

  1. Review your information for accuracy
  2. Click "Register" to complete registration

Login Process

Once you have created your Codex Editor account, you can log in to access all translation features and your projects.

Automatic Login After Registration

  • After creating your account, you will be logged in automatically
  • You will remain logged in for up to one year
  • This means you won't need to log in frequently
  • Your session persists across application restarts

Manual Login

When you need to log in manually:

  1. Open Codex Editor: Launch the application
  2. Enter Credentials:
    • Username or email address
    • Your account password
  3. Click Login: Submit your credentials to access your account

Account Security Best Practices

Password Guidelines

Passwords containing information from your username or email will be rejected

  • Use a unique password that you don't use elsewhere
  • Consider using a password manager
  • Include special characters and numbers
  • Avoid personal information like birthdays or names

Email Considerations

  • Use an email you check regularly
  • Ensure the email account is secure
  • Add Codex Editor to your email whitelist to prevent important messages from going to spam

Troubleshooting Initial Setup

Application Won't Start

  • Verify your system meets the minimum requirements
  • Try running the application as an administrator (Windows) or with elevated permissions
  • Check that your antivirus software isn't blocking the application

Permission Issues

  • Ensure the application has necessary file system permissions
  • On macOS, you may need to allow the app in System Preferences > Security & Privacy
  • On Linux, verify the executable has the correct permissions

Network Connectivity

  • Codex Editor requires internet access for AI features
  • Check your firewall settings to ensure the application can connect
  • Verify your network connection is stable

Common Account Issues

Username Already Taken

  • Try variations of your preferred username
  • Add numbers or underscores to make it unique

Email Already Registered

  • You may already have an account
  • Try the password reset option if you've forgotten your credentials

Password Requirements Not Met

  • Ensure your password meets minimum security requirements
  • Check for any specific character requirements
